Anxious about being a Covid patient, a 22-year-old BCom student committed suicide by jumping off the seventh floor of a government hospital in Noida, police said on Tuesday.

Her family members alleged that the hospital has not handed them her body claiming that she was Covid positive. However, no report has been given to us, they said.

The girl was a resident of Sadarpur in Sector 45. On Sunday, she was admitted to the ESIC Hospital in Sector 24 after having breathing problems. She was a TB patient.

The doctors suspected her as a Covid patient and initially didn’t allow admission as the hospital is a non-Covid healthcare facility. Later, after taking samples she was admitted.

On Monday around 5.30 am, she jumped off the hospital building and died.

“We are questioning the family and the doctors to ascertain the exact reason that triggered her to take this extreme step,” DCP Sankalp Sharma said.
